Drill Pipe

Smith Services drill pipe follows a strict quality control regimen from initial material selection to final inspection to ensure each joint meets the customer’s needs for durability and performance. Drill pipe is manufactured from a proprietary alloy that allows for exceptionally tight dimensional tolerances. The result is a product that provides a 95 percent minimum wall in every tube, meaning as much as 100 percent more wall wear for API premium class drill pipe.

All tool joints exceed API requirements, and threading is performed in accordance with API Spec 7. Hardbanding is applied to the customer’s specification; tungsten carbide and casing-friendly hardbanding types are available upon request. Grade identification grooves are applied to API RP7G specification, or to specific requirements.

Smith Services\Texas Steel Conversion SRT series drill pipe is an optional product designed for applications that require low temperature enhanced impact toughness. SRT series drill pipe is engineered to meet a minimum average Charpy V-notch impact energy of 59 ft-lbs at -4°F on a 10mm x 7.5mm specimen size. Proprietary material and heat treat processes are used to insure each joint of SRT drill pipe meets the specified toughness. SRT drill pipe is available in strengths up to and including API grade S-135.

Restricted yield strength X-95CY and G-105CY drill pipe are optional products offered by Smith Services\Texas Steel Conversion. Our restricted yield strength drill pipe meets all applicable API specifications, in addition to our internal requirement that restricts maximum allowable tensile yield strength to 110,000 psi for X95-CY and 120,000 psi for G-105CY.

Connection break-in prior to placing new drill pipe in service is a recommended practice for all rotary shouldered connections. New connection break-in is an optional service available for all drill pipe orders that is performed at the factory under controlled conditions by Texas Steel Conversion personnel. Factory break-in can result in substantial cost savings compared to new connection break-in performed on the rig.
